The San Marino Grand Prix took place on 23 April 2006 at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola and covered a distance of 62 laps of 4.933 km, giving a total distance of 305.609 km.
Michael Schumacher in the Ferrari 248 F1 started the race from pole position. He was able to defend this position both at the start and during the race. In the end he won the race just ahead of his closest rival Fernando Alonso in the Renault and Juan Pablo Montoya McLaren-Mercedes. It was his 1st win of the season, which he finished in second place with a total of seven victories.
