Max Verstappen of the Red Bull Racing-Honda team started the race from position 2 in his RB16B race car. In the 16th race of the season, the drivers struggled with the difficult weather conditions. Verstappen was able to defend his position through a balanced tyre choice and finished second, regaining the overall lead from Lewis Hamilton.
