More details

Michael Schumacher in the Ferrari F1-2000 started the race from 2nd position. Right at the start he was able to overtake pole setter David Coulthard, but at the same time he had to let his biggest rival Mika Häkkinen in the McLaren-Mercedes pass. During the race, Schumacher benefited from the onset of rain and was able to pass Häkkinen again. As the race progressed, he extended his lead and eventually won the Grand Prix ahead of Häkkinen and Coulthard.

With his fourth victory from six races, he continued to distance himself from permanent rival Häkkinen in the overall standings. At the end of the season he would celebrate his first world championship title with Ferrari and his third title overall with nine Grand Prix victories, among others. The start of an unprecedented winning streak.
